FURNITURE/APPLIANCE REQUESTS
We know of some local families who hardly have enough money to buy food and pay their rent. Sometimes they don't even have that much! To save up for the items listed below isn't even part of their thought process. Yes - they could just keep the bed on the floor and skip the frame. And they could just go to the laundromat (except they don't have a car). Many of the houses in which these families live are VERY small - and the closet space is even smaller (if there even are any closets!).  They need items not for decoration but for functionality.  None of these items is critical to survival - but if we can help make their lives a little more normal - then let's do it!
Please see the list below.
Used items are ok in most cases - but please be sure they are clean, they work, and they are in good condition. At any time new items would be appreciated!

See home page for needs.

FURNITURE/APPLIANCE DONATIONS
If you have furniture or appliance items to donate, and we have no corresponding needs listed above, then here are a few options to consider:
  • If you can store it at your home until a need arises, that would be great! Just let us know so we can add it to our database.
  • We have limited storage available for a few items - we would prefer to put only easy to store and "popular" items (ie: bedroom dressers). Let us know if you think this is a possible option.
  • If you'd like to sell your item(s) on Craig's List or eBay and don't know how - we can help! See our eBay program page for details.
  • If you want to recycle an appliance - The PECO Smart Appliance Recycling program removes older refrigerators and freezers from operation as secondary units in homes (ie - the older units in your basement or garage; they must be working).  PECO will also pick up a room AC but only if they come to get a refrigerator or freezer.  PECO will also PAY YOU $35 for each refrigerator/freezer picked up. AC units pay you $25 each.  This is a first come first served program until PECO funds are used up.  Call 888-5-PECO-SAVE for questions or go to http://www.pecosmartideas.com/programsandrebates/residential/appliancerecycling.html
  • If you need to get rid of your item now and we can't use it - then a few good suggestions for other donation possibilities include:
    • Habitat for Humanity Home Store - located in Coatesville; they will pickup items (furniture, appliances, cabinets, bathroom fixtures, etc.); call 610-466-1890, www.hfhcc.org
    • Paoli Presbyterian Church - Furniture Task Force - they will pick up furniture but only on Wednesday evenings; they need about a month of lead time to fit you into their schedule; call Joan at 610-644-8250 (Call on Tuesdays only, 9-5)
    • The Church of the Good Samaritan - Paoli - they will pick up; ask for Rusty Smith, 610-644-4040, www.good-samaritan.org
    • The Bethesda Project, 215-985-1600, they help homeless families in Philadelphia set up with furniture and household good when they find a new home; they will pick up.
    • Second Mile Center at 215-662-1663 (In Philadelphia at 214 S. 45th St - will pick up furniture, clothes, appliances, etc; usually needs a couple weeks of lead-time.)
    • Home Furnishings Consignment Store - Gateway Shopping Center, 610-964-1903, donate the furniture to this store, and then when it sells you can donate the sale money to T&E Care!  This is an especially great option for nicer furniture.   The store does not take appliances.  Pictures required in advance (you can email them to hfc139@comcast.net).  Call the store for details.  (They will pick up items for a delivery fee.)
    • Impact Thrift Stores, Inc. - at 57 E. Germantown Pike in E. Norriton, call 610-239-9848 for details; they accept good condition used clothing, furniture, appliances, etc. See the website (www.impactthrift.org) for items they accept and do not accept; they have drop-off hours, and will come pick up large items of furniture (This is a good option for buying used items as well!)
    • Goodwill - the store in Berwyn will accept some items; there is a bigger location in Exton; you need to deliver all items yourself; call 610-594-6949 (Exton) or 610-644-2533 (Berwyn)
    • The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Philadelphia - will do home pick-ups of furniture, clothing, and housewares - call 215-288-9540 to schedule one.
    • Best Buy will now take old TVs and recycle them.  They will charge a $10 fee to take the unit, but will give you a $10 Best Buy gift card in return.
PLEASE - in ALL cases the furniture, appliances, and items must be in decent shape and working order. If you have an item for us to consider - please indicate what it is, the size (dimensions), general style, color, and any other details that might be helpful. Contact us at help@tecare.org. If you have the manual (especially for appliances) that would also be appreciated.
